The Highway Code – 2 Second Rule

The Highway Code – 2 Second Rule

The 2 second rule

Adapt your speed to keep two seconds traveling distance behind the vehicle ahead!

Pick a fixed point (a pole or change of road surface). When the vehicle ahead reaches this point, start to count (one hundred and one, one hundred and two….). If you arrive at the same point before reaching the count of 2 then you are too close to the vehicle ahead and need to drop back until you are 2 seconds behind.
